Pastoral Letter

Pastoral Letter – 16th August

My Dear Friends

‘Behold how good and pleasant it is
   to dwell together in unity.’
Psalm 133:1

The Psalm that is appointed for today is Psalm 133 which is a psalm that I love – as I have said before the psalms have a bit of everything in them – praise, thanksgiving, sorrow, tears and lament.  This verse struck me as I read it, proclaiming how good and pleasant it is that God has brought us together as a Church community.  This might seem a real challenge at this time when we are still in this strange period of Covid-19 where some of us are meeting in church wearing masks and not able to meet socially and share in the fellowship that is at the cornerstone of what we do and who we are.  However, the psalm is telling us that we are united, that God brings us together where-ever we are, however we meet God.  This unity is what keeps us together though apart – our prayers and support for each other make a difference.  It may seem that sometimes it is difficult to find the positives in our world at the moment but our faith is what keeps us going through it all.  Through our faith God walks alongside us and keeps us together though we have to be apart and at this time we have to do things differently.

I am conscious that as we move to coming back to church we need to re-establish some routines and some things we need to pick up again.  One of these things is to put together a prayer list – people we know would appreciate our prayer support.  Please do let me know if there are names that you would like included on this list.

The other thing that the PCCs discussed at our last meeting was setting up a Pastoral Group.  This group would support our work in meeting the needs of the people we come into contact with and all the people who are part of our church community, whether physically or online.  If you would be interested in this important ministry in our churches please, again, let me know and I will arrange a meeting to talk about what this might involve.  I would like people from both churches so that we can meet peoples needs right across our benefice.

Please continue to pray that God may show us the way he wants us to go in the future and which small steps we can take towards this even though we are at a strange time.

Please be assured of my continuing prayers and I ask for yours.
With many prayers and blessings.

Yours in Christ,

Rev’d Stephen
